What to Expect

To make a diagnosis your osteopath will take details of your medical history, which will include past illnesses and present health.

Examination

After your case history is taken with your permission you will be examined (for the purposes of which it may be necessary to remove some items of clothing). If you feel you would be more comfortable please bring a pair of shorts to change into. You can also bring some-one with you to the appointment if you so wish.

If appropriate and with your consent treatment will be administered and further management of your case will be discussed.

Treatment

Osteopathic treatment involves manual techniques, such as, specialised muscle and joint stretching, soft tissue work, specific manipulation of joints and gentle balancing techniques.

Patients will often be given home work, typically stretching or strengthening exercises. Also the application of cold or heat on specific injuries as appropriate.
